The Yarn I’m Dyeing to Make

That’s right, I’ve gotten into yarn dyeing! More importantly, I want to make yarn for you!

Yes, I know that is cheesy.

It’s also accurate.

You see, I noticed that it was fairly hard for me to find a specific shade of yarn that I wanted to use. That isn’t to say that there isn’t a ton of absolutely beautiful yarn out there – Oh My Gawd, there is so much beautiful yarn out there! – but most of it is dyed using acid dyes, which are harmful to the environment and to the lungs of they dyer, or when I am looking for a specific color I can never seem to find it.

So… that’s what I’m offering: relatively eco-friendly custom hand-dyed yarn.

How is my yarn eco-friendly? I dye using only edible materials; spefically, I use vinegar and food coloring. I can also use Kool-Aid, bottled beverages, and other colorful edible items as my dyes, and citric acid as my mordant (a mordant is a chemical that causes the chemical reaction so the color molecules can bind to the fiber). Some of the yarn bases I use are not fully eco-friendly since superwash and a few other chemical treatments are not eco-friendly, but my dyeing method and plain wools are!

But what exactly am I offering in terms of customization? I am offering anything you like! Do you want a dark tonal blue with bright yellow patches with very few green blending places? I can do that (and it would look great in Wool of the Andes 100% Superwash Peruvian Highland Wool, and I would hand paint it for maximum color control)! Do you want a pretty petal pink with darker pink splotches? I can do that (and it looks wonderful on Wool of the Andes 100% Peruvian Highland Wool in Bulky)! Do you want a light blue sock yarn with bright dots that look like Jelly Beans? I have done that one already for myself! They made beautiful Easter socks!

You can click here to order some custom yarn, but what if you aren’t sure what you would like? Different dyers tend to have different looks to their yarn, so do you like what I can do? Food coloring can look different from traditional acid dyes – do you like that difference? I have a Spring Sampler Mini-Skin Set you can buy with five 20 gram mini-skins in 5 different colorways. This sampler will only be available until the first day of summer, but then I will have a new set of colors available.

I even have a video announcing this new yarn!

Yes, I am very excited about this! I hope you are, too! I look forward to taking your order soon!
