Hanging Washcloth Bag

What do you do when you’ve used a washcloth, especially one you’ve made yourself, and it needs to be washed, but you haven’t quite finished your shower yet? I had been putting it back to hang dry, but then I would forget to move it to the wash and it would still be there for my next shower. So, I made a shaped mesh bag to hang from a command hook in the back of my shower! Now, I’ve also made one to hang just outside my shower so I can grab a clean washcloth once I’ve turned on the water and realized that I need one!

So here are the things you need for the pattern:

  • 100% cotton yarn, Size 4/Worsted weight, about 45 grams. You can use as many colors as you like, changing colors on any round, or you can make it in one color. I finished up two small partial skeins in the photo, and changed color when I ran out of the first one
  • 5mm crochet hook

A few stitches to know:

  • This pattern is in US terms and is worked in the round
  • Starter V – Ch3 + HDC in the same space
  • V-stitch (shown as V in the pattern) – (HDC, ch1, HDC) in the same space
  • Ch2 counts as a HDC or a DC at the start of a round
  • SS – slip stitch
  • HDC – Half Double Crochet
  • DC – Double Crochet
  • Ch – Chain
  • Sp – space

Instructions:

  1. Ch 4, SS to 1st ch to create a circle. Into the circle do a Starter V, Ch1, (HDC, ch1) 5x, SS to 2nd ch to close then SS into the next ch sp. (there should be 7 HDC/ch2 total)
  2. Starter V, Ch1, (V, Ch1) in each ch sp around. SS to 2nd ch to close then SS into the next ch sp
  3. Starter V, ch1, HDC in next sp, ch1, (V in next ch sp, ch1, HDC in next ch sp, ch1) around. SS to 2nd ch to close then SS into the next ch sp
  4. Starter V, ch1, HDC in next sp, ch1, (V in next ch sp, ch1, [HDC in next ch sp, ch1] 2x) around. SS to 2nd ch to close then SS into the next ch sp
  5. Starter V, ch1, HDC in next sp, ch1, (V in next ch sp, ch1, [HDC in next ch sp, ch1] 3x) around. SS to 2nd ch to close then SS into the next ch sp
  6. Ch3, (HDC in next sp, ch1) around. SS to 2nd ch to close then SS into the next ch sp
  7. Ch3, (HDC in next sp, ch1) around. SS to 2nd ch to close then SS into the next ch sp
  8. Ch3, (HDC in next sp, ch1) around. SS to 2nd ch to close then SS into the next ch sp
  9. Ch3, HDC in next sp, ch1, HDC in next 2 spaces, ([ch1, HDC in next sp] 3x, HDC in next sp) around. SS to 2nd ch to close then SS into the next ch sp
    • Round 9 should work out perfectly, but if it doesn’t, that’s totally okay; just finish the round as best as you can and then do your slip stitching. Exact stitch count does not matter!
  10. Ch3, (HDC in next sp, ch1) around. SS to 2nd ch to close then SS into the next ch sp
  11. Ch3, (HDC in next sp, ch1) around. SS to 2nd ch to close then SS into the next ch sp
  12. Ch3, HDC in next 2 spaces, ([ch1, HDC in next sp] 2x, HDC in next sp) around. SS to 2nd ch to close then SS into the next ch sp
    • Round 12 should work out perfectly, but if it doesn’t, that’s totally okay; just finish the round as best as you can and then do your slip stitching. Exact stitch count does not matter! And if Round 9 didn’t work out for you, this one likely won’t work out, either.
  13. Ch3, (HDC in next sp, ch1) around. SS to 2nd ch to close then SS into the next ch sp
  14. Ch3, (HDC in next sp, ch1) around. SS to 2nd ch to close then SS into the next ch sp
  15. Ch2 + 2DC in the same sp, then 3DC in each sp around, except for the last sp which will get 2DC + ch1. SS to 2nd chain and fasten off. Weave in ends, and you are done! The bag will hang from the ch1 in the last round.
